ARTISTS I POSITIONS

Bryan Claessen

Painter I Sittard I NL

Bryan Claessen (Sittard 1977) is a self taught artist who expresses his views on the world in paintings, initially, Bryan’s works contained a lot of abstraction and empty spaces. He then delved into history and presented his audience with his view of the decay of the American dream. He is currently reinventing the lonely – but not unhappy – presence of individuals in confusing situations. In his recent work he sketches atmospheric images, places that intrigue him. Often buildings or landscapes containing one or more people, In an alienating combination of realism and abstraction. He leaves it to the viewer to think about these situations so that we all think about why we end up in situations and where those situations lead us.

The question raised by Bryan’s paintings do not always lead to an answer. Sometimes it is pure enjoyment of composition and colors. Watch endlessly, without ever getting bored.

Zoë Schoonbrood

Mixed Media I Maastricht I B

Zoë grew up in Bilzen and graduated 2007 as a Master in Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp – discipline In Situ³, a direction at the interface between visual art and architecture, also known as 'site specific' work.

After her studies, Zoë taught art education for five years and represented groups of adolescents and adults. She then started as a curator and subsequently became Art Director at a large art center abroad.

Zoë is inspired by Berlinde de Bruykere, Marcel Mariën, Jospeh Beuys, Francis Bacon, Yorgos Lanthimos and Leonard Cohen. Her work is about transience, which actually stands for innovation. The skin is central. Our own 'house'. The idea grew to allow the viewer to sympathize with how change can be experienced through the application of time. Wrinkles. Dimples.

Marco Iannicelli

MARCO IANNICELLI www.marcoiannicelli.com

Product Design Artist I Aachen I D

His style heavily elaborates on extreme material contrasts expressed through friction between simple or archaic forms in movement. The tension field between natural shapes and industrial lines lends particular inspiration. Challenges in marrying the two in functional forms that retain the integrity of both the natural and the refined also help him skirt that which is merely decorative.

His skill has taken him to a multitude of national & international exhibitions and continues to earn him coverage in relevant media, including designboom, Der Spiegel Online and a cover story and interview for Ingenuity Magazine, China.

Additionally, he has won national German design and creativity awards such as the stipend “Creative Drive” and the title “Kultur- und Kreativpilot Deutschland”, awarded by the German Ministry of Economy and Technology.

Hilde van Hees

Painter I Bilzen I B

Hilde is an architect and holds a bachelor's degree in painting from PXL-MAD.  Although she primarily paints (flirting with the border between abstraction and figuration), she also creates murals and collages.

In the serie "Dive into" she studied "water" for some time.  By zooming in on aspects such as fluidity, reflection, movement and transparency combined with a sense of elusiveness, atmospheric works are created.

Just as nature is always in motion, Hilde allows herself a constant evolution in her personal approach.

She literally works on top of the horizontal (unprepared) canvas and feels how her work unfolds under her feet.  Hands and heart close - to evoke a unique and urgent expression. She likes to use a variety of richly colored paints, pigments, oil sticks, glitters....

She is highly motivated to encounter the unexpected or uncover the mysterious.

"Above the horizon" is now her fascination.  And in the symbolism of clouds there is an autobiographical affinity at work.
